Hello everyone,
My name is Blake and I am the founder of Gildist. I wanted to create a fun website where people could win real money by entering sweepstakes on a daily basis. Entries would be quick and simple while requiring just a few minutes of your time. Most importantly, I also formed Gildist on the values of trust and honesty. After today, I’m afraid we’ve lost most of your trust, if not, all of it.
As many of you know, Gildist launched a promotion on Tuesday that overpromised a free gift card. The terms always stated that Gildist would hand out the gift cards on a limited supply/first come, first served basis and that users would be added to our mailing list. We were afraid that this wasn’t getting noticed on our website, so we edited the original Facebook post to reflect the same terms from our website, but we never altered those clauses. We expected, at most, a few hundred people to agree to these terms and submit their name and email. We never expected the amount of shares and viral attention that we received, the thousands of page likes, or the promotion to be posted on dozens of other websites. In total, we received over ten thousand entries.
Gildist is a small company operating at a significant loss but I always made sure to keep our lights on and promised that anyone who’s won something from us would be paid. You can confirm this by reading the hundreds of reviews on our site. Seeing the thousands of entries was exciting, but incredibly scary, because we simply don’t have the means to purchase that many cards. We planned to distribute the supply that we did have by launching the Freebies section on our website, throttling the stock at first and restocking throughout the day. Since there was no feasible way for us to deliver the message to each of you simultaneously, it wouldn’t be fair to have them all available at once. Many of you became upset and felt duped by the way the promotion played out.
Moving forward, we will fulfill any and all orders that have already been placed for the free gift cards. The remaining supply of gift cards will not be distributed on a first come, first served basis. Instead, we will be doing a drawing and contacting the randomly picked entrants via email. This is the most fair and reasonable approach to distribute the remaining gift cards. For those that have concerns about their privacy, we will not be adding your email addresses to our mailing list. We will not sell or disclose any of your private information (your name and email) to any third parties. You might receive one more email tomorrow with this same note, but then your emails will be deleted from our system.
In closing, I am incredibly sorry. I do not expect you to forget this but I do hope that you can forgive Gildist so that one day, it can become what I’ve always wanted it to, a fair, simple, and honest sweepstakes company for everyone.
